Franco Ranaldi was born at Palombara Sabina (Rome), where from  a tender age he pursued his interest in art with deeper studies of both contemporary masters and those of the past. In 1983 he was awarded first prize in the  Rome Tavolozza Italiana competition while the following year he became Accademico Benemerito for Art. Alongside his artistic calling, Ranaldi is a writer  as well. He published a number of short stories in various magazines and journals and in 1990 published a collection of poems entitled Specchi frantumati (or Broken mirrors). The following year found him collaborating with the daily newspaper Il Messaggero as a correspondent. His love of books moved him to enrol in the prestigious Scuola Vaticana di Biblioteconomia where  he received his diploma in 1996  with highest honours. One of Ranaldi’s books, a biography of Pope Karol Wojtyla, upon  the recommendation of the Romanian  Embassy to the Holy See, was translated into Romanian with the title Papa Joan Paul II- Lea Si Jubileul Anului 2000 and published by  Editura Paralela 45 of Bucarest. The book carries a preface by cardinal Paul Poupard, president of the Pontifical Commission for Culture.

The artist has continued to take part in shows an exhibition of importance: in December 1995 he showed his work at the Harrow Art Centre of London, and in 1997 at the Festival of Two Worlds of Spoleto and at the Edimburgh Festival. Besides he exposed  at the “Atelier Gustave” in Paris in February 2003; in the same year he painted the “Christening of Christ”, a painting 3x2 m. of dimension, which is in Rome at the Istituto di Santa Dorotea in the main conference room. After that, he exposed at Prague’s most central “Zelezna” art gallery in  October 2004. In 2005 Franco Ranaldi is planning an exhibition of his latest works at the gallery “Una Strada per l’Arte” in Rome. Arrangements are being made  for another exhibition next autumn in Paris.
